Hello. My name is Malcolm, and I live in Salem, Oregon USA. Currently, I work as a Peer Recovery Specialist at the Oregon State Hospital. Yes, of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" fame. I've been sharing peer support, formally, for more than a decade, and informally for over 40 years. I also provide contracted trauma-informed care trainings on a limited basis. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a double-minor in philosophy and religion, and a master's degree in teaching with authorizations at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. I am a former wildland firefighter, wilderness ranger, and Level II USFS law enforcement officer, High School Transition Project Coordinator for individuals with developmental disabilities, public school teacher, and professional consultant and trainer for the National Center for Trauma Informed Care (SAMHSA and NASMHPD). I'm a former Project ABLE board member, former board member and Board Chair of the Oregon Consumer Advisory Council, and former board member and Board Chair of the Klamath County Commission on Children and Families. I'm a current board member of the Oregon Consumer and Psychiatric Survivor Coalition and the Marion County Parks Commission. It is my hope that Personal Medicine and, specifically, the CPMC and CPMC-T will help me contribute to transforming the Oregon State Hospital into a truly trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented organization. Personal choice, direction, and empowerment lead to meaningful, substantive, and lasting recovery. My primary personal medicine is hiking in the wild. |
