Greetings! My name is Jonathan P. Edwards. I always include my middle initial because I love my middle name: Philip. I am a New York Certified Peer Specialist and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and doctoral candidate in the social welfare program at CUNY Graduate Center in NYC.
I currently work as a program consultant for Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Use Prevention, Care, and Treatment with NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
I have been involved in some capacity and in various aspects of recovery-oriented care and peer workforce development for almost 20 years, 10 of which I worked with NYC Health and Hospitals as Consumer Affairs Coordinator and Director of Peer Support Services. I have also served on the New York Peer Specialist Certification Board since 2014 and the National Association of Peer Supporters Board since 2017. Working in this field is a passion and I hope to always find a place to try and make a contribution.
I became a Certified Personal Medicine Coach primarily because I believed in Personal Medicine from the very first time I heard Pat Deegan talk it 15+ years ago. I am called to this work as a way of validating my ongoing experiences distinguishing between doing and taking, and learning more about the complementarity of doing and taking in a well-informed, balanced and intentional way. I hope to be become more of a practitioner of Personal Medicine in my own life and inspire others to find their inner wisdom and strength, which we all have.
